Culture

Where to begin? Liverpool has more museums and galleries than any other UK city outside of the capital. The city region also boasts fifteen theatres and halls, ranging from the modern Liverpool Echo Arena to the Art Deco style Philharmonic Hall.

The Liverpool Empire Theatre is the second largest theatre in the country and showcases the best in local, national and international talent, often hosting shows direct from London’s West End. The Everyman and Playhouse theatres provide an eclectic mix to the cities performing arts offer.

Theatre, cinema, art galleries, museums, historical buildings, parks and gardens. The only problem, where to start and what to do? By the way, we haven’t even mentioned the greatest pop group in the world yet!

Sport

Liverpool boasts two historic football clubs. Everton FC and Liverpool FC are separated by just one mile and are two of the Premiership’s finest teams. To be in the city on a European football night is truly something special! The region is also home to England’s Golf Coast, the finest stretch of championship golf in the world, with no fewer than three Royal Links courses which have hosted endless Open Championships and Ryder Cups. Horse-racing is huge in the city; Aintree and Haydock racecourses offer top-quality racing including the world-famous Grand National Festival at Aintree each spring. Liverpool Echo Arena hosts large-scale sporting events such as boxing and gymnastics.

Sightseeing

A great piece of advice when walking around Liverpool: look up. Liverpool’s skyline fuses striking modern architecture with classically beautiful Victorian buildings. English Heritage named Liverpool the country’s finest Victorian city, but that doesn’t stop the new kids in town stealing the spotlight; in 2014, the recently renovated Everyman Theatre bagged the RIBA Stirling Prize for architecture.

When your neck is tired from looking up, take the short walk to the world-famous waterfront where you can look across the river and then turn around to see the jewel in the cities crown which are the Three Graces. Keep your eyes open for the many architectural surprises that are all around the city and don’t hesitate to ascend to the top of the Anglican Cathedral or St John’s Beacon for even more spectacular views of this wonderful city.

One of the greenest citys in the UK Liverpool has an abundance of outdoor spaces, parks, beaches and stunning coastline to explore. They are easy to access by bus and train and there is so much to discover. Host to a huge range of annual summer events, some are also home to unique art collections and all of them are a great places to appreciate the outdoors.
